The Visma Management Trainee year consists of five strategically important projects at five different Visma companies and I was lucky to have my first project at Weoptit!

Weoptit is a company full of positive energy, and everyone is extremely talented at what they do, so I was lucky to be part of the team for 10 weeks.

As a fresh graduate from university I was eager to learn, and all the coworkers had a lot of technical & industry knowledge which they were happy to share with me.

I was often in awe when I read the code of different projects and when I attended Weoptit’s internal meetings because the customer cases of Weoptit are extremely interesting.

My responsibilities during the 10-week project were to look into Weoptit’s optimization solutions and find the ones with the highest commercial potential for productization.

This included looking into code and the associated documentation of that code, interviewing developers and filling Weoptit’s internal documents, all of which were very rewarding because I gained a lot of knowledge on optimization.

The project also had a fun creative side as one of my responsibilities included creating marketing content e.g. for the website of Weoptit.

In my opinion, Weoptit does meaningful work because the projects that they do help save the resources of this planet.

Essentially an optimization algorithm quickly (more quickly and accurately than any human) analyzes how to use resources in the smartest way.

An optimization solution can be extremely impactful for the client financially but also increase employee happiness. Read here (in Finnish) my favorite example of how a solution created by Weoptit made a positive impact for a large number of employees in an organization.

Ten weeks at Weoptit went by quickly because the project was challenging and fun.

I learned a lot about optimization, and I was given a lot of responsibility since the beginning of the project which helped me to develop my project management skills.

All the skills that I gained at Weoptit will be useful in the forthcoming Management Trainee projects and later in working life. Big thanks to the people of Weoptit for making my experience fun and memorable!
